Begin with a Book Initiative
Beginning in October 2010, the Page Education Foundation will be kicking off the Begin with a Book initiative at three different community organizations in the Twin Cities. Thanks to a grant from the Michelson Family Foundation, the Page Education Foundation will partner with the Bring Me a Book Foundation as well as Centro Cultural Chicano, Brian Coyle Center and the Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club.
The concept is simple, but powerful – Page Scholars will begin their volunteer service sessions by reading to the younger children. Each site has been stocked with a new bookshelf and culturally/age appropriate books. “We are thrilled to begin this initiative,” says Patrice Howard, Page Education Foundation Program Manager. “The Begin with a Book initiative gives us the opportunity to focus Page Scholars Service-to-Children projects on literacy. We are confident it will have a positive impact on the young children we serve.”
