Page Education Foundation Grants

The Page Education Foundation awards annually renewable grants to Minnesota students of color who attend colleges, universities, and technical schools within the state of Minnesota. Students who accept financial aid from the Foundation are required to return to their communities and perform annual Service-to-Children projects with younger children of color.

Successful candidates must demonstrate financial need, a positive attitude toward education, agree to perform an annual community service project, and attend a post-secondary institution within the state of Minnesota. Awards consist of annual grants that range in value from $1,000 to $2,500. Recipients must reapply each year they attend post-secondary school and receive subsequent grants based on their academic progress and mentoring performance.

What if I attend post-secondary school outside Minnesota, but I'm willing to do a summer service project in Minnesota?
Currently, Page Grants are restricted to students attending post-secondary schools in Minnesota.

What grants are awarded, and how are they paid?
Grants range from $1,000 to $2,500 per school year depending on school expenses and individual needs. Students must be enrolled for full-time study and payments are made directly to the college each term. Some colleges provide matching funds. Check with your college to see if matching funds are available for you.

How long does the Page Grant run?
Page Grants are awarded for one school year at a time. However, students can reapply each year that they are in college as long as they complete their required Service-to-Children project and satisfactory progress is made in their studies.

What are my chances of getting a Page Grant?
Good - if you have financial need and are willing to participate in a Service-to-Children project.

What are the requirements for the Service-to-Children project?
Page Scholars select their projects from a list of organizations in their community, where they interact with K-8th grade students of color. Projects vary from tutoring at elementary, middle or junior high schools or reading to young children, to being a big buddy, mentor, etc. However, there must be an academic focus to the service project. Page Scholars are expected to spend 2 hours each week of the school year on the service project -- totaling 50 hours per year.

What are the goals of the Service-to-Children project?
The goals are to positively influence attitudes of young children of color to value learning and education, so that they will want to attend college and be a Page Scholar someday, too.

When are the Page Grants announced?
Students are notified in June. Students who are selected to be Page Scholars are invited to attend the Page Scholar Recognition Ceremony in late June. In August, the Foundation holds a very important Page Scholar Orientation program where students get details of what is expected in the Service-to-Children projects, as well as other important information about being a Page Scholar.

Will anyone be available to help me set up a project?
You can call the Foundation office for information or help at any time. After classes start in the fall, you have the option of being paired with a mentor through the Foundation. This is an adult who volunteers to support your Service-to-Children project activities. Your Senior Mentor can also help with issues related to school, career planning, summer employment, etc.
