Andre Arnett, biology major at the University of St. Thomas, returned as a Page Scholar not only for the financial assistance provided but also for the personal growth and positive impact on the children he noticed while volunteering at Groveland Park Elementary in St. Paul. As well as anyone Mr. Arnett embodies the qualities that make Page Scholars a unique and dynamic force for change in their communities. While in his first year at St. Thomas Andre was able to achieve impressive academic standing while simultaneously experiencing the reciprocal benefits that can only come from a strong mentoring relationship and from giving back to your community. “As much as I have influenced the children, they have affected me tenfold. Volunteering was easy because I enjoyed seeing my students and benefitted greatly by it. I grew incredibly as a student learning to care for younger students, and as a genuine person.”
