Service-to-Children Project: Ramsey County Sheriff's Reading Program Volunteer
Ashley Yang, a junior at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, is majoring in advertising with dreams of working in an agency. Ashley volunteers at the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Reading Program where she works primarily with Hmong refugees from Laos and Thailand. She is able to speak to the kids in their native language, which helps them understand the topics that they learn in English. “I enjoy this opportunity to give back to my community. I spend 3 to 4 hours a week with kids 7th through 12th grade and I feel like I’m really building strong relationships with the people from my own community.”
