Service-to-Children Project: Mentor and Tutor at Jefferson Elementary School
While working towards his Public Administration degree at Winona State University, DeShawn Woods was able to find time twice a week to give back to his community, as a mentor for two young students at Jefferson Elementary school. By spending time reading with the students, listening to their concerns and encouraging them to work hard, DeShawn was able to forge a unique bond with his mentees and provide for them, an important role model. DeShawn undoubtedly has set lofty vocational and educational goals, a master’s degree in Public Administration leading to a position as either an attorney or a US Senator. Yet DeShawn’s ambition and ability, coupled with the experience and assistance he gained as a Page scholar have made his dreams for the future an attainable reality. “I just want to personally extend my gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Page and the entire Page Foundation for believing in me and investing in my future.”
