Service-to-Children Project: Saint Albert's Church-Saint Paul
Thuy Doan didn’t anticipate the kind of impact that Toma Thien Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society, a group she helped found 10 years ago, would have. Only a cluster of five students at the Church of St. Albert in St. Paul, today the group has 20 youth leaders who serve 200 students. As vice president, Thuy oversees the curriculum for all the VEYS youth programs. She designs lesson plans and activities, integrates service projects and attends local and regional summer camps. Thuy is a key reason many Vietnamese high school students in VEYS stay in school and apply for college. Thuy herself has been a Page Scholar longer than any other student in the Foundation’s history; she’s currently finishing a doctorate in public health at the University of Minnesota.
