The annual Award Ceremony welcome Page Scholars into the Page Grant program and recognizes returning Page Scholars for their outstanding service to children projects.  Current Page Scholars, and their friends and family, are invited as well as educators and community supporters.

SPEAKERS

FOUNDER

Alan C. Page, Minnesota’s first African-American Supreme Court Justice, was elected to the court in 1992.  He was re-elected in 1998, 2004, 2010, and recently retired in 2015 after serving for 22 years.  Justice Page is widely renowned for his former career as a professional football player.  Elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988, he is best known for his defensive efforts with the Minnesota Vikings in the 1970s. Justice Page, who attended law school at the University of Minnesota during the height of his football career, is an ardent defender of equal education for children.  He is the founder of the Page Education Foundation, which assists students of color with post‑secondary education.

 

 

 

 

FEATURED SPEAKER

Kao Kalia Yang is a teacher, public speaker, and writer. Yang is the author of the award-winning book, The Latehomecomer: A Hmong Family Memoir (Coffee House Press, 2008) and the book, The Song Poet (Metropolitan Books, 2016). She is a Page Scholar Alumna and a graduate of Carleton College and Columbia University’s School of the Arts. Kao Kalia lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her family.

Kao Kalia Yang is a member of the Hmong ethnic minority. Born in Thailand’s Ban Vinai Refugee Camp, Yang is now an American citizen.
